More Appointments to Public Bodies Regulated by Commissioner

With effect from 11 February 2009

The Commissioner for Public Appointments now regulates appointments to the boards of a further 23 public bodies following a change to the Order in Council which sets out the Commissioner’s remit.

Under the amended Order in Council the Commissioner’s remit will include Ministerial appointments to the boards of National Park Authorities in England and Wales and to Conservation Boards for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Other public bodies now covered by the Commissioner’s Code of Practice include the Food Standards Agency, the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Office of Rail Regulation.

The Commissioner welcomed the extension to her remit saying: “I am pleased that appointments to these important public bodies have been added to those I already regulate. My Code of Practice ensures that appointments to these boards are made on merit, after fair and open competition.”
