The Commissioner

The Commissioner for Public Appointments in England and Wales is:-

  • appointed by the Crown;
  • independent of government; and
  • is not a civil servant.

The current Commissioner is Dame Janet Gaymer DBE QC.  She was appointed as Commissioner with effect from 1 January 2006.  Her appointment is for a non-renewable fixed term which will expire on 31 December 2010.  She works three days a week.

The Commissioner for Public Appointments is also ex officio a Civil Service Commissioner.
